Headshot KamiDear Guitar Friends,

Welcome to the 2016-17 season of the Piedmont Classic Guitar Society! We are happy to be serving our community again this year by bringing guest artists, promoting local/regional events, and planning for our future. We hope you will continue to support us and that we can offer something that enriches your guitar life.

Our first event of the new season will be a concert and community master class by Thibaut Garcia. Thibaut is the GFA (Guitar Foundation of America) competition winner this year.

Thibaut is currently on the GFA Winner’s Tour, and will be stopping off in Greensboro on Monday, 9/26 at 7:00pm in the Moon Room, Dana, at Guilford College. We requested an earlier time and shorter amount of music for our school students that evening. We should be finished with the concert at 8:30pm. Check out Thibaut’s web site with bio info, videos, pics, etc. Tickets will be $8 members, $10 Students and $15 General.

Our PCGS Community Play-In will be on Saturday, 10/29 at 10:00am at the Kathleen Clay Edwards Library at 1420 Price Park Drive, Greensboro, NC 27410. Tel. 336.373.2923. This event is an opportunity for local guitarists of all ages and levels to come together and share what they have been working on. Consider it a safe and positive performance practice. We would love to hear you, and are trying out an earlier time for those who want to feel like they have their Saturday afternoon free.

UNCSA and Joe Pecoraro will be hosting the GFA Regional Symposium in November. This will be an awesome event with lots of schools across the state and even from surrounding states attending. The 2016 GFA Symposium will be held in Winston-Salem Nov. 12-13 at UNCSA. For complete information and registration, click. We are excited this opportunity is being provided to our community and hope all will take advantage! Also, Bill Kanengiser will be kicking-off the GFA Symposium with a concert on 11/12. Click for info on that concert.

Our PCGS Community Concert is on for 12/9, 7:30pm! We love hosting local schools and amateurs at this event showcasing some of the best talent in the Triad. Please contact Alan Hirsh at ah@bmhs.us if you’re interested in performing or having a group perform.

We look forward to another great Guitarganza in spring 17 and will let you know details soon. Meanwhile, the board has set out to actively look ahead this year by planning for upcoming seasons. The first of two big future events we would like to announce here is a large-scale fundraiser Teacher’s Concert in September, 2017. The second is the idea of creating a diverse volunteer community orchestra to tour Spain in the summer of 2018. Stand-by for more info about both of these experiences.

Finally, if you haven’t been a member, we would love for you to join. Soon we will have both on-line ticket sales (hopefully by out Thibaut concert) and on-line Guitarganza registration.

Happy Guitarring!

Kami Rowan, president
